According to Hadrian, stoic philosopher, our greatest mistake is to try to exact from each person virtues which he/she does not possess and to neglect the cultivation of those which he/she has.
Delivering an idea, pitch, ideology, conversation topic to those who don't listen to you - you are simply devaluing what you are trying to say - pull back - observe them - don't push your mandate, look for those who want to listen and GO THERE.
Jordan Peterson discusses this further when he quotes a passage from the new testament 'cast pearls before swine', to the swine, with no understanding, the pearls have no greater value then a food source, as it is not food, the swines will turn on the giver.
This is alive and well, especially in today's externally validated society.
Choose very carefully who you decide to share your ideas and conversations with....
